P Thinking review

De Bono's  Lateral Thinking is (TM) for real.  - Common Sense (TM) is a Brindle Style joke regarding the  ownership of ideas, yet intellectual property rights  is serious business.

While my Nanny told me the same concept, and Parallel Thinking may be common sense to me, de Bono  has effectively thrown a net around an idea among his people and has the credentials to do it.  And does a fabulous job or I wouldn' mention it here.

Common Sense (TM) A common goal of the common good - how obvious!

PARALLEL THINKING: Any step away from divide and conquer, from separation, any step away from this whole goodies an' baddies, us an' them, upper and lower class, left and right wing; adversarial structure is a step forward for Participatory Democracy.

This Edward De Bone of Malta, takes the story by way of ancient Greece -

Parallel Thinking by Edward de Bono - 1994

Book Review by Maiia

De Bono begins by taking his Parallel Thinking two and a half thousand years - to the early development of 'western' thinking, to Aristotle, Plato and Socrates.   Whom he calls the Greek 'Gang of Three'  - old foundations unsuited to this era we live in.

"Possibility' may be the most important word in thinking.  it is the power of possibility that is responsible for Western technical progress - not the argument system"

It's pretty well 'impossible' to do more than a superficial dip into the work, the main reason it seems to suit Brindle Style is it promotes creative thinking.

Chapter 11- Problem-Solving begins "Most of the major problems in the world today persist precisely because we have such an excellent method of problem-solving.  This statement is not meant to be sarcastic.  We do have an excellent method of problem-solving.  It is so good we have not bothered to develop any other method."

"Given our technical competence, how much further ahead would we have been with a more constructive thinking style?"

Maiia: An example is when we reaIise a capability previously unknown. The 'impossible'  is no longer impossible.  Maybe you are forced by circustance to work hard.  Could be you become the first person in your family to get a university degree, this then become something achievable to future generations.   -There's an old jazz tune- "If you don't have a dream, how can you have a dream come true."

I found the book related to Jon Hawkes  very useful chart - Cultural Binaries which places art and science side by side.  - in parallel.

LOL! one adversarial point for art - 'Creative'  -    "Being against things is not enough.  We also need to develop the habits of constructive thinking."

"We do not like pluralism because Socrates and company have convinced us there is one truth."                                        CoolYet light travels in  particles and in wave-lengths
